Automotive Wheel Torque Sensors with High Level Outputs
S. Himmelstein and Company introduced the new MCRT 27000V Series dc operated, automotive wheel torque sensors ("torque wheels"). Integral signal conditioners eliminate any need for external amplifiers. MCRT 27000V Torque Wheels accurately measure wheel torque and speed during driving, braking and coastdown maneuvers. Constructed of corrosion resistant materials, they are waterproofed to permit operation in shallow water. Standard features include non-contact signal transfer and unprecedented immunity to contamination from road salt, dirt, and mud.
Dual ±5 or ±10 volt dc outputs are available for direct interface with vehicle data acquisition systems. Included are built in low pass signal filters and remote calibration circuitry. A single supply voltage of 10.5 to 24 volts dc, including vehicle battery, is required for power. Torquemeter installation is made without vehicle rework, and can accommodate 4, 5, 6 & 8 bolt wheel patterns in front wheel, rear wheel and all wheel drive applications. Full scale ranges from 5,000 through 100,000 LB-IN have two times overload rating. Low capacity models, with 10 times overload ratings, cover the ranges from 250 through 2,000 LB-IN. Optional speed encoders provide 3,600 pulses per revolution.
A unique sensor element design and excellent temperature compensation yields intrinsic immunity to temperature gradients and radial and cornering loads. Rotary transformers provide non-contact signal coupling to the rotating strain gage bridge. These advanced transformers contain no ferrites, eliminating vulnerability to impact damage.
